Rabani & Rakha: Blending cultures

It might not be in the same league as fashion houses JJ Valaya, Tarun Tahiliani or Rohit Bal, but the Delhi-based label Rabani & Rakha — run by husband and wife duo Rahul and Shibani Rastogi and Gautum Rakha — is certainly making waves.
The designers, who have been in the fashion business for the past 10 years, came to Karachi to present their collection at the recently concluded The line, which was showcased on day two of the three-day event, was nothing short of a fashion delicacy.
In a short conversation with The Express Tribune, Rakha talks about his trip to Karachi, the brand’s future plans and about the fashion scene in India and Pakistan in general.

Lahore on track to host AFC President’s Cup


ISLAMABAD: The Asian Football Confederation President’s Cup qualifying tournament is expected to go ahead in Pakistan next month despite a bombing in Lahore this week and the withdrawal of Bangladesh league champion Sheikh Jamal Dhanmundi.

PTA delays 3G licensing auction indefinitely


DUBAI: The auction to sell third-generation (3G) mobile telecoms licences in Pakistan has been indefinitely delayed, telecom operators told Reuters on Thursday.
The auction, if completed, would have raised a minimum of 630 million dollars for the country.
The auction of three 3G licences had been scheduled to be held on March 29, according to a January government memorandum, and would be open to the five existing mobile operators plus potential new entrants.
Potential bidders were due to submit expressions of interest from January 21, but they have yet not been invited to do so, Walid Irshaid, chief executive of Pakistan Telecommunication Co (PTCL), told Reuters.

7-member bench of SC convicts Prime Minister Gilani


ISLAMABAD: A seven member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Nasir ul Mulk, convicted Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani till rising of court in a contempt case, initiated against him for not implementing NRO judgement.
The bench comprising Justice Nasir ul Mulk, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Muhammad Athar Saeed announced the verdict as reserved on April 24.

U.S. officials seize contaminated ultrasound gel


WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. officials on Wednesday confiscated ultrasound gel in New Jersey that health regulators believe infected 16 surgical patients with potentially deadly bacteria.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the gel posed "serious health risks" after finding samples of the product were contaminated with two different strains of bacteria.
The gel, called Other-Sonic Generic Ultrasound Transmission Gel, is made by privately held Pharmaceutical Innovations Inc in Newark, New Jersey. It helps improve the transmission of ultrasound waves, high-frequency sound waves that produce images of structures within ........... read more>>
